Project Goals and Outcomes
Enhance irrigation efficiency across agricultural lands
Control natural drainage and prevent soil salinity
Maximize use of surface and groundwater resources
Support agricultural infrastructure and food security
Protect water and soil from erosion and degradation
Location and Climate
Jiroft Plain is located in the southern part of Kerman Province and is part of the western Zagros catchment.
Latitude: 28°15′ to 45′
Longitude: 57°30′ to 58°
Elevation: approx. 1405 meters above sea level
Annual rainfall: moderate to high
River discharge: varies between 400 to 500 m³/s
Groundwater depth: approx. 170 meters
The region includes both seasonal and permanent rivers, which are essential for agricultural water supply.
Geological and Soil Features
Part of Iran’s central structural zone and Zagros sedimentary basin
Influenced by tectonic processes: compression, extension, and faulting
Presence of various rock types: sandstone, conglomerate, granite, diorite
Intrusive and metamorphic rocks along the basin margins
Ancient geological units with high permeability potential
Alluvial deposits from erosion of surrounding mountains
Groundwater flows from northeast to southwest
Both confined and unconfined aquifers exist in the plain
Confined aquifers transition to unconfined in the central zone
Sediments include large rock fragments, gravel, and sand
Formation of silt and clay layers in downstream areas
Groundwater flow supports agriculture and ecological balance
